How Long Does It Take To Build A Business?
Do you know where you are at in the stage of building a TRUE business?
I am always amazed at how so many people chase the quick win or the silver bullet in business, as they think this will have them be successful. What is a silver bullet? What does it look like? No one can answer this as it does not exist!
Don’t you realise that this is how these “grab for cash”, marketing “experts” are selling you with their hype, video’s, brochures? Seriously, what are they offering you? Do they truly understand what it takes to build a business like yours? Probably not …
Silver bullets do not exist. You have to do WORK to gain success and there is no way getting around it. A true business should deliver to you a sustainable and scalable income, lifestyle and feeling of satisfaction and success.
But what is a business?
A true business is an opportunity (vehicle) YOU create to serve a specific market with a product and/or service, in a way that delivers the market great value and in return, you the business owner receives a positive cash return, a lifestyle and a feeling of making an impact on the world.
Problem Mindset: Business owners chasing silver bullets through desperation
Solution Strategy: Plan, talk and act like it takes 7 years to build a business
So with this being a business, how long does it take to really build one of these?
7 years
Why 7 years you ask? Because you need this time to:
- Develop and refine your products and/or services (need to get to version 3 before it is any good by the way)
- Build and refine your systems
- Establish your market and then build it
- Learn how to sell to your market in a way that your reputation and brand builds
- Gain raving fans that drive your business innovation
- Develop and then test your business model to provide you the lifestyle you want as the owner
- Etc (could continue but the blog will get too long !)
So just check in with yourself and ask yourself seriously, how many of these dot points above have you specifically addressed with focused attention. How many have you mastered? Why or why not?
Get yourself a mentor or coach to guide you to this place, but make sure they are not just selling you a marketing and sales tool, as there is way more to business than just sales and marketing.
There are many businesses who have gone bankrupt because they grew through marketing and sales, before they could handle it.
Think about it and enjoy the journey …
With service to you
