What Does Your Business Give You?
What is it supposed to give you – ever asked that question?
Most business owners feel hard done by in many subtle ways, which is debilitating over time and this is a major contributing factor to what kills their spirit.
- Who is the person often paid LAST or not at all in a small business?
- Who often does the MOST hours in the business, but has the least holidays?
- Who takes all the RISK and gets hurt the hardest when the business is unsuccessful?
Answer to all these questions:
YOU, the business owner AND your respective family!
Why is this and what can you do about it? you might be asking right now.
The main reason that I have experienced after coaching and training 1000’s of business owners is their “paradigm” or “the way they see the world”. Ask yourself this question and answer it as honestly as you possibly can:
“What is the purpose/reason that you have your own business?”
All the responses I have heard over the last decade can be 1 or more of these 4 areas:
- For more financial freedom
- For more time freedom
- To have freedom of choice of what, how and when I do what I do
- To show the world what is possible and how well things can be done
I am here to tell you that all of these things are great and true, but they answer more the reason “why you went into business” – NOT what is the purpose of it.
The No 1 purpose for your business to exist is:
To serve/give me the lifestyle that I want and deserve in this lifetime!!!
Problem Mindset: I am a slave to my business
Solution Strategy: My business exists to give me the lifestyle I choose for me and my family
You, as a business owner, will come from a whole new place and create a whole lot more success when you begin to see your business as a vehicle that serves YOU and your FAMILY, not the other way around.
Stop being a slave to your business, and start being the MASTER!
One of the first things you need to do to begin this transition is get clear on what you want your lifestyle to look for you and your family, now and in the future. This can be done in various ways and it is different for all people. BUT what is common for each person, is that they need to capture it in a numeric sense, so you have specific numbers or a scoreboard that you can determine if you have arrived at your destination or not.
In next week’s blog I will show you the simplest way of doing this, by completing what I call a Succession Plan.
Stay tuned and think about what this blog is really sharing with you:
Your business exists to give YOU what you and your FAMILY want and deserve!
Think about that and watch how your thoughts and feelings inside begin to stir up.
Have a phenomenal week!
