Who gets the gold medals and million dollar pays?
Have you ever thought why certain people get these and others don’t?
We live in a world that admires achievement, whatever domain that exists. We are a race that gives admiration and respect for people who overcome odds and win.
It leads me to really think about who it was, why and what is the commonality. The common pattern is we as humans always give kudos, respect and admiration to FINISHERS!
Finishers of a race - the winners and the people who had little chance, but gave it their all. (e.g. The Sierra Leone swimmer in the 2000 Sydney Olympics who swam the 100m race slower than the 200m race winner). Finishers of projects that others had never thought of that made a truly great difference to fellow humans in our world. (e.g. Steve Jobs). Finishers who worked very hard to achieve something and sacrificed so much. (e.g. Your mother or father)
Remember what your parents, grandparents or good friends said to you as you were growing up, "it is not whether you win or not, it’s all about doing your best"!
Things do not change when you are an adult, the prize or rewards just have higher meaning or are for bigger stakes.
You see 'finishing' something is not about the recognition or reward, it is all about feeling happier and satisfied within yourself.
Have you ever noticed when you complete something 100%, a really powerful and satisfying feeling comes over you.
That is called the beginning or continuation of your "confidence muscle" growing ...
Problem mindset: Starting many projects and not finishing
Solution mindset: Finish projects and tasks 100% and increase your confidence
Think about it in your life and business right now. How many projects do you have going that are not finished? If you thought about them are they really taxing on your internal thoughts?
I have seen business owners for nearly a decade like this. They have projects incomplete, for example;
- hiring key people they need for their business
- innovating an existing product that would take their business to a whole new level ( but don't have 'time')
- creating an organization chart to help them restructure their business
- a client list they have not followed up on 100% but know they need to
The point of this blog is not to build shame in you as a reader, but bring "light" or awareness to the potential in YOU and your business. If you read this in the light of 'what is the distinction I can grab to use in my life here', the answer possibly is;
Finish 3 things a week, to build your confidence, feel happier, build relationships and generate different results in your life!!!
It does not matter how big or small they are, just finish 3 projects 100% you set to achieve for the week and continue with this.
All great achievements in life come through a consistency of achieving small steps over and over again.
If you want success in your life, then think and act small NOW and watch the wave of momentum change your life!
What are your 3 things you need to do this week that have been niggling you in the back of your mind that you would just love to finish?
Write them down, commit to doing them and enjoy ...
YOU are a master finisher!
Have a terrific 'finishing' week
Trent
